Safety Matting is Extremely Important

Safety Matting is Extremely Important

Safety is of prime importance in any type of facility, whether it is industrial, commercial, businesses, schools, restaurants, hotels and motels, nursing or assisted living homes, warehouses, fitness centers, gyms, walkways, entrances, playgrounds, wet areas, and other locations which are heavily used and require the addition of a preventive measure.

Why Are Floor Mats So Needed?

Floor mats are among the safety necessities required in order to protect workers, visitors, and the floors themselves. AntiFatigue mats keep workers’ legs and feet comfortable and cut down on absences from work caused by the resultant aches and pains from having to do a lot of standing. In addition, non-slip mats reduce slip and fall injuries by both workers and customers who come to the business or facility.

What Types of Matting Are Available?

More than 30 years of first-rate experience in the industry learning about the requirements to accommodate a safe environment has resulted in a very wide selection of high quality durable and affordable matting products. Competitive prices are maintained, especially with one choice being recycled rubber mats.

Manufacturing

Combining sales with the added benefit of actually manufacturing many of the mats results in being able to keep pricing down for customers who have to operate within a predetermined budget. Examples of such mats are Grip Rock, Super G, Grip Rock-Freezer, and Brite Trac slip resistant matting.

Warranty

Always offered is at least a standard one-year warranty against any manufacturer's defects on all products, and some products have an even longer warranty.

Assistance

Utilizing JCH International in Rome, Georgia, and its knowledgeable and friendly sales staff will assist you in the proper product and quantity selection that is right for your particular purposes.

You can get quick immediate delivery by using products in stock, or you can get help designing a logo or other unique or unusually-sized mat if you are willing to wait for your order to be completed according to your directions.. You can also obtain free samples to assist in the selection of the many colors and complete line of products.

Ways to Take the Guesswork Out Of Bidding for a Job

Regardless of the construction trade a person works in, everyone has a task they enjoy doing and a task they just hate to do. Usually, the task they enjoy doing is something they can do well. For an experienced HVAC contractor, installing duct work is a piece of cake. Then there are other tedious tasks that are frustrating to do. The challenge for contractors is understanding how to calculate and accurately charge for these types of tasks.

Most individuals who choose to work in the construction field do so because they enjoy working with their hands. They enjoy interacting with real things. They did not get this job because they wanted to be an accountant. However, as much as a contractor may hate estimating jobs and then making bids based on these estimates, it is an essential part of what they do. Being able to accurately estimate a job and being able to accurately bid for a job can mean the difference between a successful business and one that fails.

Many contractors have experiences where they get the job, do the best work they can, but because of a problem with their estimate, they either break even or walk away losing money. Mistakes associated with pricing a job will cost contractors money.

The first step in accurately estimating a job is to make sure that you include all of the materials you are going to need. For example, a plumber would need to know the pipes they're going to be using, the number of elbows they will need, and the amount of digging and excavating they will need to do for the job.

Something else to take into consideration is the number of vehicles that are going to be used on the job. Contractors should not forget to prorate the wear and tear their vehicles are going to have, depreciation of the vehicles, and fuel costs. Additionally, overhead costs need to be factored in. This includes insurance, permits, advertising, salary, and all of the other little things that contractors need in order to keep their business running.

Many contractors have seen the benefit of pre-estimating a job and then using that to create a flat rate. Electricians can show their customers the flat rate in an electrical price book. They can also show upgrades to the job that can be done for an up charge. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of bidding for a job.

3 Tips for Safe Overhead Crane Operation

Your overhead crane is a vital part of your company's everyday doings, whether you work in a factory, a chemical plant, or outdoors on construction sites. But regardless of the setup of your overhead crane, it's important that you use it and care for it according to manufacturer instructions, and that you always obey all safety rules and regulations, and have the crane and any other equipment you own tested regularly. Here are three tips to ensure that you use your overhead crane -- and any other large equipment you'd like to apply these tips to - properly and safely, which ensures the minimization of on-the-job injuries, as well as damage to expensive equipment.

Always respect manufacturer rules and guidelines.
Operate your overhead crane according to instructions, and take care to make sure that you do not overload your crane, or attempt to lift loads that are unbalanced or prone to becoming easily unbalanced. One small shift in an overloaded or unsteady load is all it takes for catastrophic results. Online resources such as www.ProservAnchor.com can provide you with helpful information on rules and guidelines for various cranes and related equipment.

Take into consideration the use of hoists.
Hoists and other types of external lifting equipment all play an important role in helping you to use your overhead crane to its maximum abilities. Of course, you'll want to make sure that with straight-lift cranes in particular, any third party equipment you bring into the equation -- such as an overhead hoist or other lifting equipment -- is being used properly, and has been recently inspected to ensure safe operation.

Perform your own inspections.
State-required minimum inspections ensure that you can continue to run your business, but if you are prioritizing safety on the job, conduct your own monthly inspections to ensure everything is top notch.

Learning At Lynda

What is your learning style?

If you are visual or auditory learners, you would definitely benefit from watching videos about topics you are interested in. I was given a chance to try lynda.com for a few days as a perk from Klout and I found it very helpful. I watched videos about using the Illustrator and about an author making children's books. There are also videos about enhancing one's self to be a better person or be better at work. I like that I had the option to save the transcript of the videos so I could go over them again and take notes. I perused the app on my iPhone so I could watch videos wherever I am and especially when I was breastfeeding my little one. I like the idea of learning on-the-go.

There are over 2,000 courses that could cater to your learning needs so you could achieve your dreams. To get access to all courses, membership fees start at $25 per month. If you need to learn about, say, Photography, lynda.com has that topic, and with access to other courses, the price is affordable if you also want to learn about post-processing using Photoshop. At the end of the course, you will be given a certificate, too.

How To Achieve A Smoother Workflow

Even the simplest DIY project can turn into a frustrating task if you have to search endlessly for the tools you need to complete the project. A good day at work can also take a negative turn when you have to waste time trying to find the tools and supplies you need. Hobbies are supposed to be a relaxing activity. If your hobby requires the use of tools, it is imperative that you establish a work area and keep the items you need organized and readily available so that you spend your free time completing projects rather than searching for things.

Waterloo toolboxes at EliteToolBoxes.com can help you in any of the scenarios mentioned above. If your collection of tools is extensive, a tool center may be the best way for you to achieve the organization you need. A plastic or metal tote stocked in an organized manner can save you considerable time when you are working on a project. You can set up a nice hobby or craft area in a small space using a work bench with storage or a project center with a power strip and storage drawers.

You can save yourself some time and avoid aggravation and frustration by investing in an affordable toolbox or work center. If you have ever gone out and bought parts, supplies or tools and discovered later on that you already had that exact item, you'll know that getting and staying organized can also save you some money.

WAHMderful Life Workshop 3

Remember I attended the very first It's A WAHMderful Life Workshop? My post was linked up over at the WAHMderful Life Workshop Re-run write-up over at wahmderfullife.com. I wasn't able to attend the second one, but I am looking forward to gracing the one that will be happening on April 13.

I am interested in the break-out session number 2, on writing jobs. I am hoping to learn more and as a blogger, this might help me in that aspect.
One of the moms I met in the first workshop is planning to attend, too. We wish to take advantage of the group rate so we still need one more lady. Are you the one? :-)

Am I made for the WAHMderful life?

Last October 27, I attended a workshop for moms who are aspiring to work from home.

Can you spot me in the group picture below? :-)

The lovely WAHMs and WAHMs-to-be

Although I haven't yet found the answer to the question: Am I made for the WAHMderful life?, there are several things I have learned from this workshop.

  1. I really need to define my objectives for working at home, and write down my mommy mission statement. I need to be intentional and purposeful.
  2. Know what I could do to meet my objectives and to carry out my mission as a Christian mom.
  3. Gather support from other like-minded moms.
  4. I need to try schedules that would work for my family.
  5. I am not sure if being a VA is for me. I am so disorganized!
  6. I sure am not an expert on something, but according to Ramit Sethi, I can still make money. I have to know what value I could offer to people who have needs which I can fill.
  7. I cannot strive for balance, only simplicity. I know I need to start with our home, our immediate environment.
  8. I want to have my own zone where I could work on something, and I need to teach my children to respect my work space. Right now, our computer table is located in the living area where the children play. So, my computer time is very erratic as they would suddenly pull me away when they need me or just want my company.

Me, WOHM to SAHM

Before I became a stay-at-home-mom, I worked as a teller at a bank. When I visit banks or other establishments and see people working, I would suddenly miss being a work-out-of-home-mom. I would miss interacting with different kinds of people, I would miss being of service to them, I would miss attending events like corporate events, I would miss getting incentives for a job well done, I would miss posting transactions until my fingers ache. Those were the days I know I could never go back to. I really didn't think I would be a homemaker although I am not the workaholic type of woman. I didn't think that a cooking lesson could come handy because I was never into cooking and baking and such. But, in my opinion, being a mother is more challenging than working as a bank personnel. After six in the evening, I clock out and don't think about the transactions anymore. As a mom, the "work" never stops, and I have to always think about their well-being. And this would go on for many, many, many years since I could see that even when they grow up, looking after them would still be a priority.

Working out of home, the advantages include:
  • Fulfillment as a person: being good at something, other than my role as a mother
  • Stimulation of the mind
  • Interaction with different types of people
  • Grown-up conversations
  • Additional income
  • Time for myself or with friends at work
  • Gaining new friends
  • Learning new skills through training
The rewards of staying at home are:
  • Ability to witness my children's milestones
  • Caring for my family's needs myself
  • Learning to cook
  • Pure love packaged as children
  • An excuse to act like a child *laughs*
  • Getting to watch and read fairy-tales again
  • Closeness with the Lord as being a mother needs wisdom and strength from Him
  • Being a better person since I need to set a good example for my kids
  • Being adored, admired, needed. I feel good when my children are so happy to see me and smile at me so sweetly and genuinely. :-)

Stay-at-home Mommy or Working Mom?

Sometimes, when my daughter is throwing tantrums or when my son keeps on bawling, I would wonder if being a mother truly is what God has called me to be. After I gave birth to my first child and after my maternity leave, I have returned to my work at the bank. But, after almost two years of hiring different nannies and training them in caring for my daughter again and again, I decided to quit my 8-5 work and be a SAHM. But, I really wanted to be a WAHM. It's just that I don't have work I could do at home, yet.

Now, I wonder if being a SAHM was a bad idea. Not because I regret taking care of my kids personally (I think this is a better option than entrusting them fully to a caretaker), but because financially, we really need additional income. Of course I want to spend as much time as possible with my two (soon to be three) children, especially during their formative years, but I also want to be doing something I like and earning from it, too. Is it wrong to want everything?

My friend suggested I go back to work after I give birth to my third. I am also contemplating on this. But what job is good for me? Should I go back to working at a bank? I read somewhere that it is one of the ideal jobs for a mother. I just wonder if my knowledge before would still be applicable now. I might need to undergo training again to be informed about a brokerage account or knowing about picking good mutual funds. And if I will be going into another path of career, won't I be too old to be applying at 30 years old?

I believe something will come up, by God's grace. For now, I am trying to be the best mommy for my two little angels.

Seek No More: Women Entrepreneurship Summit 2011

I saw this while blog-hopping: Seek No More: Women Entrepreneurship Summit 2011

This seems like a good way to find a good business idea or opportunity for women who want to be entrepreneurs or have their own sideline as an additional source of income. I myself am interested in this because I want to help in our financial aspect. Here I hope to learn what businesses are ideal to be run by women, and to know what works best as a home-based business. I guess I would also acquire information on the aspects of advertising items, customized notepads as incentives for clients or employees, or if there is a need to use Empowerkit as a marketing tool.

I really want to work and at the same time take care of my little ones. I also want a business that could glorify the Lord. But, it is so hard to come up with an idea that would work, and I have no experience in marketing, business administration and the likes. I am hoping I could be enlightened in this area.

On Franchising

I am planning on acquiring a franchise. Some say this is a good idea because, according to one article I read by Fitz Villafuerte:

The strongest argument for buying a franchise is brand recognition. Getting a popular franchise gives you a higher rate of success.

I also think that if I follow the company's formula, I do not have to think of what works or not. They should have that thought through already. I also hope that they will help me all throughout the process as I have very little business experience.

I wonder, if I would like to implement my own business strategy, would they let me? For example, if I want to let the people in the area know that I exist, could I give out something like promotional pens? Of course, I will have to put the logo on a pen I will distribute so the potential customers would get acquainted with the brand.

Then, to keep the customers coming, I hope I would get the fund to acquire personalized pencils and stationery to give away to wonderful customers come Christmas. But, that is, if it is not against the company's policy. Things like these I have to remember to ask the company. Maybe they would have their own style of marketing that I must follow, definitely.

Please wish me luck!

Mommy In Business

Now that I am married and have my own kids, I cannot imagine myself going back to being an employee. Yet, I desire to have my own source of income. One way that I think I could achieve this is to have my own business, where I am my own boss and that I'll have time for my kids. I suppose this would enable me to work from home. But setting up a business is no joke, or no easy feat. There are a lot to think about, to consider, like what I should sell or what services I could offer. I also need to know what market I'd like to target, to discover my niche. And then there are the business papers to attend to. I also have to contemplate on getting a business insurance quote. Then, there are people to hire and finding a most strategic location, if I am going to open a store. And, if this business becomes big and international (I could dream, couldn't I?), I would also have to search for business insurance in Texas or California business insurance, for example.

This is not some far away dream as there are many, many moms out there who are living this dream. This dream of having their own business and being a cool mommy to their children, plus being a supportive and dutiful wife, all at the same time. I hope that some day, I could accomplish this also, with God's blessing.

This Job Or That?

There are some days...or shall we say, most days, that I have to virtually drag myself to work. I know this is sinful with the financial crisis going on, I must be thankful I have a job. There might be many people who would love to have my job, and all I could say is, "Take it!" Three years is a short time to be with a company, but am I getting tired? Actually, I want to be a work-at-home-mommy personally caring for my daughter and not missing her milestones. Would it be selfish of me to want to be involved in my baby girl's life before she starts school? After all, I could be easily replaced at work, but no one can replace me as my baby's mommy.

That is one of the top reasons why I plan to leave. Sometimes, I am envious of full time mommies who blog so much about their children, because what I see in my child most of the time are the wrong things that she has absorbed from the yaya or the caretaker. I want to play with her, to sing to her, to read her stories, to make art and crafts with her, to explore the natural environment with her.

Another reason is that I want to start our own business. I guess I want change. Sometimes the monotony of work is getting to me. Also, I wish to have a business that I would enjoy, where I would earn, and be an outlet to help those in need and to glorify God with. A challenge for me now is to come up with a business idea. I think it should be unique, catchy and would stand out that people will tell others of it. That is what's racking my brains these days. And I am about to throw myself into the unknown, too!

Remember last Christmas with the reports on bank robberies and armored vehicles being held up with casualties and deaths? I know that God is ever keeping me safe, but I can't help but have moments when I fear for my life, even more so when I am riding the armored vehicle to load money. Those times I tell myself that I can't wait to leave this line of work. I can't help thinking of the what if's.

So, now, I am counting down the days until I hand in my resignation letter. Wait, what should I put down in this letter? Any idea?

Getting Near The Threshold

Yesterday, I attended an orientation on the new feature of the WU system. There was an e-mail informing us that the training will be held from 8 am to 10 am. And then a colleague heard from another colleague that the activity time slot had been changed to 9 am to 12 pm. So, I needed to know the correct time of the orientation and I called up our HR to confirm it. I was told that it would be 8:30 am to 12 pm. With that in mind, I left my house at 7:30 am to allow an hour for my commute and the traffic. I arrived at 8:20 am. There's still 10 minutes to spare, huh?

Not! I was considered late! I was given a Value of Time lesson for that. I guess making a confirmation was useless. I wonder what went wrong with the scenario...

Well, if some units of my workplace are incompetent (I cannot begin to tell you that they are frustrating to work with), I'm glad I will soon depart from them. I already informed my boss yesterday of my resignation a few months from now. He was cool with it, even understanding. After all, no one is indispensable (at work). I think he needs to know early so they'd have time to look for my replacement.

*****************************

Three of my cousins from my mother's side came back to the country for the holidays. These cousins are closer to me than the ones from my father's side. We always gathered at our Grandpa's house to visit him, to play and share meals when we were younger. There were present in my childhood memories. We all were like siblings and friends. I've always looked forward to meeting with them on weekends and summer vacations. We even traveled to the U.S. with our parents before I started high school.

We don't see each other that much in college. But we were still meeting up on weekends to visit Grandpa, to have snacks, to get updates on each other's goings-on. When work started for us, our gatherings became rare. It would be long since I get updated on their lives. My parents would even know more about them than I do (because our parents see each other often). Two of them would sometimes go out, and I was not available. In short, we were not complete save for major family gatherings like 1st birthdays or weddings.

Of the three who came home, I only had a chance to see two. I realize I miss those times of closeness, the friendship I found in my extended family. Sometimes, distance does matter. I long for a big gathering for us, where we would sit together for a dinner of Chinese Lumpia that we ourselves made, and talk animatedly, just like before.

20 September 2008

Acing the ACE

I attended a 2-day workshop organized by our company called the
Achieving
Customer service
Excellence,
which was held at our head office.

Of course, I won't come back empty handed (or rather, empty headed), things I learned in these 2 days are:

  • If I were assigned to the head office forever, I will not survive! I had to wake up very early. One option is that I take two trains, the LRT1 and the MRT. The first day I tried that, I ended up sweating so much that I could almost wring out my handkerchief. Good thing I don't use make-up or else it will be all smudged and smeared, then I'll look like a depressed clown. The next day, I rode the bus. It was a nice bus, but the aisle was quite narrow and I had a hard time navigating my wide hips through it. That's not the end of the story! Going home was rather difficult, especially with the sun not shining anymore, it spells danger in my book. My taxi experience almost got a repeat performance on the first day. On the second day, it rained and walking to the MRT station was so not a blast! I felt drained when I arrived home.
  • I lack enthusiasm. It seems like nothing gets me quite excited. I could say that I am a boring person. The trainer and one of my group mates gave me that assessment and I wanted to squeeze myself under one of the small desks. That's what I need to improve on at work, an enthusiasm for serving our clients. Though it is not part of my personality to be bubbly and spontaneous, I need to give life to my voice.
  • Though I am a boring person, I am not entirely anti-social as I was part of a group of 4 at the workshop. For these 2 days I had lunch with them, and we talked about many things, too.
  • It's challenging to be positive, but rewarding (with all the negativity in the world). The trainer said she is on her journey to being positive - through prayer and meditation. Words play an important role in this attitude improvement. With words, feelings follow, then actions. Can you replace the following words with those that give a positive energy?
Problem
Frustrated
Weakness

  • Empathy is a great gift to everyone, especially to clients who come to me for help in satisfying their needs - information, products, services. It also improves relationships, and is one of the tools I could use to show others of Christ's love. I need to put myself in their shoes, as I have experienced being a customer myself.
  • It's weird, but I have a hard time saying, "How may I help you?" It's a tongue-twister for me. I hope I'll be forgiven for not using it in answering the company's calls as per the telephone-answering policy.
Lessons are not really learned unless they are applied and are put into practice. After all, "practice makes permanent".

28 August 2008

Bankable bank?

As an Interior Design graduate, I never thought I'd be working at a bank. But, here I am! Already with the company for 2 years and counting, this is my longest stay with a workforce. As in every corporate setting, there are ups and downs and I have my share of that, too.

Pick-me-uppers:
  • Smiles and sincere thank yous from clients
  • Some generous ones give us food
  • Free passes to exhibits
  • Bonuses, increases, profit sharing
  • Medical benefits
  • Christmas is a fun time when clients give gifts
  • I hope they like our giveaways, too

Low-downs:

  • Obnoxious clients and us becoming an extension of their offices
  • Incompetent units
  • Stinging eyes from looking at the monitor whole day
  • Sore back and big hips from mostly sitting

The ups outweigh the downs and I'm still content with my job. I'm looking forward to the merit increase (and in my salary since I was promoted) although it's not very much.

29 July 2008

The Week Enders

It started on Friday, 25th of July, I reported not in my branch but at Renaissance Center for a training. Our company decided to enter, yet again, into the remittance business, this time as a direct agent. The last time we had WU, we were only a sub-agent, and plenty of calls were needed to be made in order to complete just one transaction.
I did not know how to get there, the HR did not even provide us with a sketch of the route going there. So my sweet hubby drove me, and one of my colleagues from Valenzuela, to the training area. It took us a while to find the place. It pays to be early, especially when we're not familiar with the destination.
Unlike some preconceived notions that trainings or seminars are boring, not so with this as handled by Mantra Media. Groups were formed and although I was not grouped with some colleagues from my cluster, it's OK. It's an opportunity to know CSA's like me from other clusters/branches. One of my group mate was my partner from way back in my orientation days.
We were bombarded with group activities that have corresponding points that would be accumulated and then there would be the prizes for the group with the most points. The trainer made the topics interesting and her tone of voice was not monotonous, which was very good. She even had fascinating stories about the experiences of other FLA's (term for the front liners facilitating WU).
On the 2nd day, there would be a creative presentation from each group as a recap of the topics discussed. Our group did not come up with any in our meeting. I just decided that we do a puppet show later that evening, since a skit would be ordinary. I made the paper dolls - I drew on a folder and then colored it. I slept at 11pm because of that.

It was worth it since it was appreciated by the trainer and some group mates said thanks, though they did not offer to pay for the materials I used. We also had an exam and I got 51/60, it was kind of disappointing for me. The latter part of the training was about the system itself and the speaker was so unlike the trainer, he just gave us info that was also fed to him. When we asked him questions, he did not know how to answer them and gave the excuse that he's not very familiar with it yet. I was thinking, train us when you yourself know how to really use the system. Maybe I'll learn more just by reading the operations manual.
We finished way earlier than the schedule and I, together with 2 colleagues, commuted to Robinsons Galleria Mall as our starting points for the next destination - home, gimmicks. After the 2 of them left, i got to hang out with a CSA from Dagupan. Both of us were waiting, she for her BF and I for my hubby. We talked about stuffs and it turned out that she may know my former "almost beau" who was also from Dagupan. Ha ha! It's a small world!
She went on ahead when her BF came since they had to travel far and I waited for my hubby. He just fetched me then we headed for the grocery in Trinoma where we first went to The Sizzling Pepper Steak for dinner. See my multiply for my review of the restaurant.

23 July 2008

Promoted!

Effective 1st of August of the year 2008 is my promotion from S1 to S2. Yippee! After 2 years and almost 5 months of working with the company, it's nice to see that my efforts are rewarded. Although there are bonuses and increases, a promotion is still a promotion, an advancement in rank or position. Several superiors and colleagues called and sent e-mails to congratulate me. There will of course be an increase in my salary, I just don't know when it will be credited. I know that this is just a minimal increase, in comparison to some who are earning much, but it is not right to compare. This is still a blessing from the Lord that I should be grateful for. The glory does not belong to me, but to God who makes "all things work for the good of those who trust in Him." Maybe this is God's way of telling me to stay with the company. There are many people who jump from company to company when they are slightly dissatisfied with the paycheck or the colleagues. Like what my husband had stated, when I get to other workplaces, will I be sure that there won't be a person there that I dislike? So that isn't a valid reason to tender resignation. It also pays to invest time and effort in one's work, even if it seems that no one is paying attention to your labor, God always sees and knows who are giving their best.

22 January 2006

not getting somewhere

I've always imagined myself having a "glam" job like being a fashion designer, jewelry designer, fashion columnist, stewardess, model, advertising agent, interior designer. A career that I could be proud of. But, it seems I always come short of the qualities that make those up. It seems what I have is mediocre and my efforts are lukewarm. These poor self-imagery are magnified at times when comparison is being made between me and people who sustain these jobs. By earthly measures they are successful and pangs of envy gripe at my heart. I ask: why is it not me who was in her shoes? Why do those things not happen to me? Ah, fate! Its wheel is crushing my spirit. I am not complaining about my job right now, it's just that it's far from what I had in mind. Growth of creativity is being stunted by routine. The outlets are checked by monotony. I think I have become a disappointment to myself for allowing this to happen. I have yet to discover what I shall do about this dilemma. But, is it under my control? I do not know. What I know is that my destiny is being held in God's loving hands. I can make so much plans and strive to fulfill them all, but they won't be successful if God does not play the biggest part in them. So, what is my purpose in wanting something so bad? Is it for my own interest? My family's? Or is it to serve God? If the last purpose is attained, then I can be assured it is the best thing for me. Degrading thoughts can continue to haunt me, I can at times beat myself up for mistakes that would jeopardize my budding career (if any) so I end up not getting somewhere in my professional life, but I guess I seem to be setting my perspectives aright and shaping myself up for the job that God Himself will delegate to me. It may not be a "glam" job, but it is from Him and for Him and that's what a true and promising job is.
