A Dinner At Quezon Restaurant

It's always great to meet up with really close friends and talk over dinner. It's even more wonderful if the food is delicious.

I went to Fisher Mall one evening with one guy friend and two gal pals. While looking at the restaurants, we saw a freshly opened one called Quezon, a Filipino - Spanish buffet. Since it was new, the walls were very white and clean. There was a sharp contrast with the black of the furniture and decor. It's design was very contemporary, with a pretty chandelier to add shine and elegance.

I guess we were famished because the only photo I took was this.

It struck me as classy and we loved the high ceiling with sparkling chandeliers.

Honestly, I didn't know where to start; not from the appetizers of:
vegetable salad
macaroni salad
potato salad
fried lumpiang ubod (yummy!)
garlic mushrooms

There were three kinds of sisig: pork, chicken and bangus (milkfish).  There was spicy lechon, bagnet, angus beef tapa, roasted chicken on the carving station.

Filipino dishes that tempt were dinakdakan, callos, bulalo steak (this was delicious!), kare-kare, pinakbet, ginataang langka. They also have pancit canton and longganisa pasta (too salty for me).

I especially love the soft serve ice cream which tasted like the popular Filipino hot chocolate drink. There were also other Filipino desserts that tickled our tastebuds.

New Home Visit

My family and I spent time at our friends Lau and Beth's new home. The photographer husbands styled and shot Beth's products, the kids were curious about the surroundings, the moms talked, and we all had a nice dinner of steak, French beans, mashed potato, a salad of lettuce, cucumber & crabsticks topped with a very yummy dressing of toasted sesame.

Elle was excited to go that when we went out to visit her lola's grave in the morning, she thought we're already heading there. I guess, like me, she likes new things, too. Who doesn't anyway? It makes us so giddy and happy. Even if that new thing isn't ours. And here came Elle's wish, to have a new home.

That was my wish, too. But, it wasn't in our concrete plans yet. There are so many things to consider when we're going to do a déménagement longue distance or move to the neighboring city.
Points like these need to be thought thoroughly since it's a big change:

  • Where to? It should be a good neighborhood with accessibility to fresh air. Oh, and the place should not be flooded when it rains.
  • How much? It might break the bank with the value of houses now.
  • How about hubby's workplace? Because right now, it's just walking distance.
  • If we're going to move, I want it to be into our dream house already (I don't know if it's feasible).
  • Will there be good Christian schools around with Chinese education?
  • Finding good and trustworthy movers. I don't know how many trucks our stuff could fit into.
Well, as of now, I think I should collect pegs of how I want our dream house to look like. For example, I want the Master Bathroom to have two separate sinks with a really nice counter-top. Like this:

The Bad, The Good and The Ugly

The Bad.
When I thought that everything was already good to go, something goes wrong to cause stress. After all, the plan was simple. Around 11am was supposed to be baby Caleb's dedication, and afterwards, to the birthday lunch venue. No programs, no clowns, no etcetera.
But...
  • The person from the parish office told me that my schedule was 9am and that the reverend had already left.
  • The other pastor needed to attend some anniversary gathering and cannot substitute.
  • He had lots of excuses when I have already called twice to confirm!
  • He suggested we re-schedule.
  • Then, we were a bit late for the lunch party. Guests were already waiting for us.
  • I was reprimanded because there were more tables than guests.
  • I was reprimanded for letting the nanny go on a day-off that day.
The Good.
In hindsight, even with the setbacks and the emotional rollercoaster that I have gone through, there were many things to be thankful to God for that day. Like...
  • My hubby who talked with the person from the parish office.
  • Accompanied by my friend who was bent on making the dedication happen, the person from the parish office had to make a way. Thanks, Beth!
  • It didn't rain, praise God!
  • My daughter Elle who looked so pretty as a little princess and she seemingly enjoyed the party playing with lots of kids.
  • Aunts who were concerned about me and my children are blessings.
  • Thankfully, Caleb did not cry at the sight of many people. Family and friends were able to carry him.
  • I'm grateful for the guests who did attend and I think it was not right to worry over those who should have come.
  • I was the one excited for Elle to open her gifts, teehee!
The Ugly.
  • The grown person who was weeping: ME!

Earth Hour 2011 in Trinoma

Baby Caleb joined Earth Hour, too!
It was really a spur of the moment decision and I am glad my good friend Meg could accommodate and date me, and my little guy. We had dinner at Cibo inside the mall.

Before it was soiled
Halfway through our meal, someone was switching off the lights. We were like, are they closing? I forgot all about the Earth Hour at 8:30 in the evening. We had an early Earth Hour at home in the afternoon because of the brownout. Would you believe that there was low power supply?

It was like dining in a dimmed restaurant but the lighting was uneven that it made us sleepy.

How Trinoma looked like with lights partially turned off
Too bad we didn't have time for dessert, hehe! But it was a nice, simple evening with food and conversation on our life issues.

First Baby Shower For My Second Baby

Surprise!

Baby inside! (photo PPed by my hubby)

Thanks to my wonderful close gal pals, my baby shower pushed through last June. I thought it wouldn't happen but they, along with two guy pals, decided to surprise me with a dinner at a Japanese restaurant. We then hanged out at a yogurt place where I got to open the gifts for my baby boy.

Isn't it nice to have great friends who share special moments with you?

Personalized Trinkets

Last Christmas, with the gifts I have prepared for my close lady friends, I included something I made myself. My aim was to add a personal touch, and in hopes of giving them a token of my appreciation, something I hoped they could decorate their things with. I hope they liked them!

A Time To Share And Enjoy

Our friend was spending her days alone in the unit she shares with her hubby. Her hubby sailed out to sea again, and it shall be months before he comes back. I was glad to see her coping, to see her independently preparing her own meals and cleaning the house. My own hubby went out of town for two days and I missed him so much already.

I, together with two other close friends went to visit her last Saturday. We took a walk around the park/market in front of their building, cooked Spaghetti together at her home, chatted about so many things that are going on in our lives, and watched their wedding video. One went home early and the rest of us just hanged out at Seattle's Best, continued chatting, took more pictures and sipped coffee, of course!

Basically, we had a really great time, in my opinion. I enjoy hanging out with my gal pals.

By February next year, I will again be a bridesmaid for another friend who's getting married soon. It's quite exciting. And it seems my daughter will be her little flower girl.

I am happy to see my friends finally poised to spend the rest of their lives with the guys that they love.

The Gathering (Of friends and of trees)

The Monday following Irish's wedding was a special non-working holiday. While she was at her honeymoon in Macau, the rest of the gang, Rix and I met up at Don Henrico's for a nice pizza-pasta-fried goodies lunch. There we treated Mary since she's the guest of honor from Taiwan. After hours of eating and talking, there were leftovers still, we went for a walk at the Robinsons Place shopping mall to digest the food in our tummies. Some of them did a little shopping. Then off we went to watch Twilight in one of the theaters at the mall. I enjoyed it. We did a little reminiscing of our high school days over coffee at Cafe Breton afterwards. This time, Mary went home with Chloe because they were to buy dried mangoes the next day, Mary will bring these back to Taiwan for her friends. Her stay was short due to unpaid leaves as an employee of less than 1 year. I hope she enjoyed.

*************************************************

I was scheduled for a Pulmonary Function Test today by the doctor I saw yesterday because of my cough that I thought was Asthma. While I was waiting, I got bored and took a picture of their glittery tree using my phone. Sorry for the blurry photo.

The test was a bit tiring as I had to breathe through my mouth and I was told to expel all air from my lungs, to inhale with all my might and to pant fast with deep inhaling, several times. I even coughed towards the end of the test. I was a bit light-headed afterwards. Then, I had an X-ray of my lungs done. 3 films with different positions, I wonder why.

I was happy that my hubby offered to come fetch me. So, while I was waiting for him (while people-watching, too), I took this snapshot of the Christmas tree at the lobby.

Regretfully, we don't have one at home. I'll just post this picture of the tree at my workplace. It's a budgeted tree, so it might look a little "malnourished".

I helped decorate it. What do you think? Here is a photo of the other decors, to compensate, I suppose.

There's a nice Christmas tree over at Momisodes, take a peek here.

Anyway, the technician over at the Pulmonary Department said that my results were high. It meant that I have no Asthma, it may be I am just having an allergic reaction. Thank God!

Lovely Day

Today is a beautiful day. The weather is sunny, but it's not too hot. There's a cool breeze blowing steadily. Ironically, we didn't go out to bask in the sunshine or let Elhaym roll on the grass or something. The street right outside our house is not noisy like usual, there's a significant decrease in the passenger jeeps roaming it. Why? Because they're watching the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, which I take no interest in. It just makes me a wee bit sad to know that De La Hoya lost, after all, he is good-looking.

I have the luxury of time to play with Elhaym, and to finish up on my post on:

My Adventures as a Mommy Bridesmaid

It was morning on the day before my friend’s wedding and I was busy packing Rix’s, Elhaym’s and my stuff, trying my best to fit all our clothes, shoes, toiletries, sterilizer, toys into as few luggage as possible. The wedding venue was far, so the soon-to-weds arranged for their families and us bridesmaids and them coordinators to stay at Parque Espaňa on Friday night. Bringing the baby on trips entails packing almost all her things in. I always speculate that she might need this and that if this and that should happen, there’s always extra clothing and lots of extra diapers. Rix was contemplating on bringing his camera, since we won’t be letting the yaya come with us (the overnight stay was not on our own expense so it wasn’t right to bring any more guests), he’d be the one staying with Elhaym when I’d be fulfilling my duty as a bridesmaid, which was to pose for the picture-taking. He he! But he brought it anyway, in case the mood or inspiration strikes him.

We wove our vehicle through the streets towards unfamiliar territory, as we don’t frequent Alabang, which was already far south. The next couple of hours were spent navigating, with the aid of a sketch in the invitation. We even dropped by my brother’s store to ask him where Alabang Town Center was. All the while, I was holding Elhaym or seating her beside me or she was standing on the backseat, looking out windows or tugging on Rix’s sleeve, expecting him to carry her and let her play with the stirring wheel. In short, she’s all over the car. The mommy bridesmaid was now also a mommy car seat for Elhaym. She doesn’t have a proper car seat, the one lent to us we needed to re-upholster.

At around 4 pm, we finally arrived at ATC. I proceeded to have my nails and toenails done at David’s Salon while Rix was strolling with Elhaym at the mall. He even bought a bean-stuffed toy dog for her. We first had dinner at Gloria Maris – a Chinese restaurant within the compound before heading for Parque Espaňa to check in. After much confusion about the rooms, we finally settled in a 3-bedroom unit with the coordinators, and 2 other bridesmaids who are also my close friends. It doesn’t take long for Elhaym to feel at home; soon, she was walking, even running around the kitchen, dining, and living areas picking up stuff and leaving them in other spaces, opening and sometimes closing drawers.

Elhaym wakes up at around 6 am, so when she was calling for our attention on Saturday morning, I had no choice but to drag myself up, despite having hit the sack late. We had plenty of time since the wedding was to start at 3:30 pm. The 3 of us had complimentary breakfast buffet at the restaurant on the 19th floor. The food was not bad. There were corned beef, scrambled eggs, strawberry & nutty chocolate muffins, cereals & milk, coffee, bread & jams, vegetable salad, cold cuts and fruits just to name some. There were even cheese slices, which Elhaym loved. After filling our tummies, we went back to our rooms to rest. I gave Elhaym milk and then I bathed her. I was in the shower when the make-up artist Chastine from Tony & Guy arrived. My friend Mary (she came from Taiwan just to attend this event) went first, I was next. Soon my transformation began. Well, it was not so drastic as he believed in enhancing a person’s facial features, not altering them; which was good. We were all prettier. Teehee!

Sometimes, after having hair and make-up done, I don’t want to move around much. But, being a mommy with a colored face is very different. I could not be as conscious as I tend to be because I needed to bend down and pick up Elhaym, carry her around, and feed her. My dress could be full of folds and creases, my one of my twin peaks could be hanging out and I wouldn’t really know.

Thank God it wasn’t raining or the sun wasn’t scorching, or else my curls would sag or I’d be sweating profusely. It was the perfect weather for an outdoor wedding ceremony at Fernbrook Gardens. God must love the soon-to-weds so. While Rix held Elhaym, I was walking with a bit of difficulty on the “red carpet” spread over uneven grass towards the front where we were to wait for Irish, the bride. Her carriage arrived and she descended from it like a fairytale princess. I took a look at Paulo the groom and he had on a very expectant countenance, with a shadow of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. I wonder what grooms were thinking when their brides were walking down the aisle. The ceremony was beautiful, especially the exchange of the vows, which the couple themselves composed. Tears were starting to well up in my eyes, I had to look up and blink them away.

Drinks and finger food were served before the reception began. Guests mingled at the covered plaza outside the dinner area. The air was cool and the atmosphere had a tinge of giddy delight at the celebration that was to commence. Now, it’s my turn to look after Elhaym as Rix was a bit tired. Appetizers were already served as my friends, my family and I settled onto one of the round tables near the front. The program included cutting of the wedding cake, sipping of wine, releasing of doves, singing of the popular group called MYMP, showing of an AVP of the couple’s pictures, a story of how they met and some messages from their family and friends, games for the single gals and guys, money dance by the newlyweds (the couple dances and guests pin money onto the bride’s gown and the groom’s suit, a Filipino tradition whose social significance I am not aware of). Simultaneously, dinner was being served. There were dishes of fish fillet, sizzling roasted beef, pork loin, and angel hair pasta with tomato sauce just to name a few. I think Elhaym was pooped as she slept halfway through the main course, but woke up before the whole affair ended. I had to change her into a T-shirt dress since the pink fairy dress that we picked for her made her neck area itchy and it was irritating her. I think she felt better after that.

The bride requested us, her friends to again stay at Parque Espaňa for another night so she could spend some time with us before they leave for Macau for their honeymoon the following day. And, also, she wished to chat with Mary before Mary goes back to Taiwan on Wednesday. Rix readily agreed to rent another room for the purpose of getting together (and since it was already late, it would be hard to drive home tired); our two guy friends Winch and Jack even stayed until midnight to talk about the wedding ceremony and the party. We also looked at some pictures they took and some videos they recorded on their laptop. Too bad the other two bridesmaids Meg and Chloe didn’t stay, we were not complete. From the animated way they discussed it, I think the newlyweds enjoyed their wedding, that’s what matters most. While we were talking in the living area about the wedding ceremony, the food and the guests, Elhaym was in the Master bedroom, on the bed surrounded by pillows, fast asleep.

When Winch and Jack left, Irish and Paulo also left for their room adjacent from ours. In times like these, a make-up remover would really come handy. Facial wash and water could not remove the eyeliner and mascara. I really haven’t thought of that. Good thing Mary has some; that stuff works like magic! I wonder where I could find good make-up remover… With that in mind, I drifted off to dreamland.

An abundant breakfast had been awaiting us again at the restaurant on the 19th floor. Irish and Paulo were also with us to enjoy it. And, again we rested after our gluttony moment. But then, time came for us to leave for home (we’ll be charged another day if we stayed longer). Mary stayed with Rix and me as our house guest since she made Taiwan her home already, years after she left the Philippines. Elhaym was also very welcoming; she shared some of her toys.

And that concluded my eventful weekend. It was tiring, but enjoyable. The fun doesn’t end there though, as Mary was still in the country until last Wednesday.

Here's a picture of my little fairy superstar.

Fat, but frail

Yesterday afternoon, I went to one of my friend's condo unit for the dress fitting for her upcoming wedding. I was to be one of her bridesmaids.

This was the view from the 15th floor. Philippines is getting quite crowded, isn't it?

I slipped into the dress, and was not really 'in' the dress when the couturier declared that the dress was too small. No one even helped me zip up! How did they know that I wouldn't fit? The bride-to-be chided me for growing myself fat since the measurement a couple of months ago. I would have pulled on her long locks if she wasn't my good friend. I just smiled and nodded while my self-esteem dropped a notch. I am badly in need of proper diet and exercise. And, my health is also suffering.
3 is the number of times I was rushed to the ER.
3 is also the number of nights I was coughing so hard I couldn't breathe.
300 is the value of my triglycerides when the maximum value should be 150.

After that, I went up to the 17th floor with my soon-to-wed friend and another close friend, who is also a bridesmaid-to-be. This is their residence at present. We watched TV, specifically The Witches of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana, while waiting for the invitations. They never came while I was there. We also hanged out at the balcony while sipping instant coffee.

A beautiful dusk sky made me forget for a moment that I was in the city.

But, alas!

Time with them was capped by their visit here at our home, because they wanted to see Elhaym and how she has grown.
